How to set up a social media posting bot
Write once, schedule a month, and let the scheduler do the posting.
You know you should post on social media regularly. But on a busy week, it's the first thing that slips, and your last Facebook post was about the Easter long weekend.
Step by step
- Block out an hour once a month for social.
- Use AI to draft post ideas from your real news and tips (see the AI use cases site).
- Take or choose real photos. They outperform stock and AI images for local businesses.
- Load everything into Meta Business Suite for Facebook and Instagram, or Buffer/Later for more platforms.
- Schedule 2-3 posts a week rather than daily.
- Check comments and messages daily; the bot posts, but people still reply.
Watch-outs
- Don't auto-post AI content without reading it.
- Scheduling tools need permissions on your pages; remove access when you stop using one.
- Avoid auto-reply bots on comments; they usually look odd.
A worked example
A Hobart florist uses Claude to draft a month of posts, edits them on Sunday night, and schedules them in Meta Business Suite for Facebook and Instagram. Real photos from the week go in as she takes them.
She sets a recurring 30-minute block every Sunday. Posts go out three times a week without her thinking about them. Comments and messages still come to her, and she replies in person. The bot handles the posting; she handles the people.
What it costs in Australia
Meta Business Suite is free for Facebook and Instagram scheduling. Buffer and Later both have free plans with limited channels, and paid plans that typically start around A$10 to A$30 a month per channel or user; check their current AUD pricing. AI drafting is free on ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini, or about A$30 a month for a paid plan.
Prices are approx., October 2026, converted at about A$1.43 per US$1 where the vendor charges in US dollars. Your bank may add a foreign transaction fee. Check the vendor's pricing page before you buy.
The legal bits
Social posts are public, so the Spam Act generally doesn't apply to them, but it does apply to direct messages you send as marketing. Australian Consumer Law applies to every claim and offer you post. If you run a competition, check your state's trade promotion rules.

Is it worth it?
For most small businesses, yes. It costs nothing with Meta Business Suite, and batching posts once a week is far easier than remembering every day. The bit that still needs you is the photos and the replies.
Common mistakes
- Scheduling and forgetting. If something big happens (a bushfire, a local tragedy, a public holiday), check your scheduled posts and pause anything that would look tone-deaf.
- Generic AI posts. Feed the AI real detail from your week. Otherwise every post sounds like every other business.
- Stock photos. Real photos of your work and team almost always do better than stock.
- Ignoring comments. Posting is automated; conversation isn't. Reply to comments within a day.
- Posting everywhere. Pick the one or two platforms your customers use and do them properly.
Start with three posts a week. If you keep that up for a month, you've built the habit.
A posting bot isn't a chatbot: it publishes, it doesn't talk. If you want automatic replies to comments and messages, see the social inbox auto-reply guide.
Questions
Is posting daily necessary?
Not for most small businesses. Consistent and useful beats frequent.
Can AI make the images?
It can, but real photos of your work build more trust.
Should I let a bot auto-generate and post without checking?
No. Draft with AI, approve every post yourself.
Which platforms should I post to?
The one or two where your customers actually are. For most local businesses, that's Facebook, Instagram and Google Business Profile.
